Amsterdam's hotel architecture has evolved from medieval foundations to majestic 19th-century buildings and modernist structures. Historic examples include the Hotel Doelen, built within the medieval city walls, and the Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, which began as a 19th-century winter garden and evolved with modern elements. The Hotel De L'Europe Amsterdam was rebuilt in the late 19th century by architect Willem Hamer the Younger. Photos of some of Amsterdam's historic hotels are below.

located in the very heart of the city at Dam Square facing the Queen’s Palace.
The hotel was established in 1866 by a Polish tailor, Adolf Wilhelm Krasnapolsky.

Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel is Amsterdam’s oldest and finest five-star hotel in the city,
and it dates back to the year 1640 when this was once the gathering spot for the civic guards of Amsterdam.

consisting of a historic 15th-century building that used to be a convent and an extension from 1926 built in Amsterdam School Style.

Hard Rock Hotel Amsterdam

American Hotel opened its doors for the first time in 1882. Since 1972, it has been listed as
an important example of architectural Art Nouveau style. The most important characteristic was the bell tower
which stuck out on an altitude of 36 meters above the Leidsesquare.
From April 2020 Amsterdam’s iconic American Hotel on Leidseplein will be officially dubbed ‘Hard Rock Hotel Amsterdam’.
